Booking Disney Tickets with Capital One Miles

Updated: Apr 2

Going to Disney is a dream for many families, but the costs can be overwhelming. Luckily, if you have a Capital One card, you likely have a stash of miles that can turn this dream into reality! In this blog post, we’ll explore how to effectively use your Capital One miles to book Disney tickets through the cover travel purchases option.

Understanding Capital One cover travel purchases

This feature allows cardholders to apply their miles toward previous purchases. For example, you can purchase Disney tickets upfront and later (within 90 days of the purchase) use your miles to essentially trade for the dollars from your statement.

Accumulating Capital One Miles

The first step in booking your Disney tickets is ensuring you have enough Capital One miles.

Currently there's a limited time elevated offer on the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. You will earn 75,000 miles plus $250 in travel credit to use in the travel portal-I'd use it on car rental. The minimum spend required is $4,000 in 3 months to earn the miles. So for this example that is worth $1000!

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is my very favorite card. It has a bonus of 75,000 miles right now. after a spend of $4,000 in 3 months. Also worth $750 towards your Disney tickets. This card gives lounge access and several other perks, making it a long term keeper for me.

You can open both cards, however you will need to put 6. months between the applications and can only hold 2 personal Capital One cards at a time.

If you have a spouse/partner/friend that you are earning miles with, you can refer them and they can also open the card. You can call Capital One to combine your miles together.

-Note-you can only earn a referral bonus if the person doesn't have a capital one card. So once they open one, you won't earn the bonus for the second card so please use my affiliate links!

Purchasing Your Disney Tickets

In order to use your Capital One miles, the tickets have to code as travel on your credit card. So buying them directly from Disney won't do this. We have used Undercover Tourist and GetAwayToday to purchase them.

Using cover travel purchases to Redeem Your Miles

After buying your Disney tickets, it’s time to leverage this feature. Log into your Capital One account and navigate to the "Cover Travel Purchases" section to review recent transactions.

Click on your rewards to find the next steps

Now click on cover travel purchases in the upper right corner

Locate the transaction for your Disney ticket purchase and select it. You will see the option to redeem your miles, allowing you to choose how many miles to apply. If you have enough, you can cancel out the cost of the tickets completely!

This is what it will look like but will pull up your Disney transaction if booked through the travel agencies above.

Timing is Everything

Capital One will allow you to use your miles to cover the travel purchases within 90 days of the transaction date.

I hope you find this helpful for making Disneyland more affordable for your family!
