If you’re looking for an easy, no-hassle credit card to get started with, this card is a solid pick. A credit score of 670 or higher is recommended, so this might be a good way to help improve a lower score, or for a student who needs to build credit.
What to know about the Chase Freedom Unlimited®
Right now, they’ve got their best-ever welcome bonus: spend just $500 in the first three months and you’ll score a $250 bonus. Not bad at all for such a low spend.
Even though they advertise it as $250 cash back, what you’re really earning is 25,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards® points. Here’s the cool part—if you pair this card with something like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Ink Business Preferred® Card, you can transfer those points and get way more value, especially if you’re into travel. It’s an easy way to stretch your rewards much further.
No annual fee means you’re not stuck paying just to have the card. Plus, it’s great if you’re trying to build or boost your credit score. Just keep in mind, it will count toward Chase’s 5/24 rule (meaning if you’ve opened five cards in the past 24 months, you might not get approved).
Perks you’ll get with the Freedom Unlimited®:
5% back on travel booked through Chase Travel℠
3% back at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery service and drugstores
1.5% back on everything else
Extended warranty protection—adds an extra year to eligible warranties
Trip cancellation/interruption insurance—up to $1,500 per person (or $6,000 per trip) back if your trip gets canceled for covered reasons like sickness or bad weather
These points are some of my favorite, but for me personally I would only take a slot in the 5/24 for this card if I needed to build my credit, or I have already opened many cards over the years and therefore have room in my 5/24 for a 25,000 point card.
